Have you ever heard of the Xanatos Gambit? It’s the principle where, even if you “lose”, you still gain some benefit and “win” in some way. You could consider it a hustle of sorts, and, well, you know how Nick is when it comes to those.

While I get the joke, the phrasing of Nick's question is very odd. Is Nick asking if dinosaurs have ever actually existed (certainly, they have), or if the concept of dinosaurs exists (also yes), or is he asking if non-avian dinosaurs are still currently living on Earth (not so much)? Nick's meaning isn't clear, which makes the foundation of the joke rather weak. Instead of dinosaurs, which have actually existed and still do in a certain way (i.e., birds), it would make more sense to use "dragons" or "unicorns" or some other more clearly fictional entity.
