We’ve received big news from the D23 expo today held at the Transamerica Expo Center in São Paulo, Brazil! Once again, we have new details and information on Zootopia 2!
Before we begin, I’d like to extend a massive thanks to our field reporter NamiVi, who has provided us with incredible photos and videos of the expo!
Things start off with a greeting from Judy in her classic police uniform!
We can see a familiar display here, Nick and Judy in their new outfits posed in a market area of the Marshlands. We know they’ll be travelling to this district of Zootopia in hunt of Gary the snake.
Speaking of Gary, our new reptile character is missing from the display in Brazil! One might think he’s being hidden, but it seems the Brazil display is just slightly smaller than the one presented in the U.S., and Gary was unfortunately cut off.
As for the display itself, we’ve got some incredible close ups of all the fun little details that really bring the world of Zootopia—and especially this new region—to life. I’ll give a quick rundown of each them, coupled with some thoughts.
- In the first image, we can see a sign for “Captain Tusk’s Fish Sticks”. This may be advertising a restaurant, as the sign also says “At the new seafood emporium”. This could mean that sea creatures only recently came to Zootopia, a possible explanation for their absence in the first film.
- In the second image, we see another advertisement for “Whale Bail Bonds”, followed by “We’ll be Baleen you out!”. Baleen is actually a term referring to the filter-feeding system in Baleen Whales mouths, making a clever pun. Under that, there is text reading “Fast service we accept shellfish of all types”. Could this be alluding a shellfish based economy for aquatic mammals? Calling the number on the ad does not provide an arg leading to the reveal of the plot of Z2.
- In the third image, we have another advertisement, this one for “Marlin West’s Fresh Packed Fish and Clams”. There’s not much to say here. I thought it might be a play on a Martin West but I wasn’t able to find any sort of link. It might point to sentient fish, but I doubt it, the marlin is much more likely a mascot.
- In image four, we see two more ads. All of the images containing advertisements really solidifies that we are in a market setting. In the image, we can see an otter advertising some sort of clear soda, perhaps soda water. Underneath that, we see an ad for a capybara lawyer, presumably called “Cappy”. Cappy is noted as working under “The Law Offices of Fernando Bara Esq.”, that appears to be specializing in “Tusk trauma” and “Chipped chompers”. This is likely just a play on the local injury lawyer ads we all receive on a daily basis. Everyone knows that one lawyer in their area with the crazy ads. Once again, calling the number (which comes out to (777) 162-7745878423) doesn’t do anything.
There was also an interactive model of Little Rodentia building at the display. Peering inside the windows provides a fun surprise, as shown by the video below.
