In a surprising yet exciting development, Sources at Disney have confirmed to us that Jared Bush will be the sole director of the highly anticipated Zootopia 2.
While the absence of Byron Howard, the co-director of the first Zootopia, might raise some eyebrows among fans, there’s no reason to worry. Byron is still at Disney and is almost certainly involved in some respect, just not as a director this time. He’s currently working on a new project of his own, and considering the last time he did that we got Encanto, we can’t wait to see what comes of it.
This new role marks a significant milestone in Jared Bush’s career, offering him the chance to step into the director’s spotlight. After all, Bush was instrumental in the success of the original Zootopia, as one of its top writers and co-screenwriter along with Phil Johnston. His deep understanding of the characters and the world they’ve built ensures that the sequel will remain true to the spirit of the original.
In addition, Yvett Merino will be the producer on Zootopia 2. Her credits include Tangled, Big Hero 6, Zootopia, and Encanto, where she was part of the departmental and studio leadership.
Fans can rest assured that Zootopia 2 is poised to be another great adventure. With Jared Bush at the helm both in the writing and now director’s chair, bringing his unique vision and passion to the project, the sequel is sure to deliver the same heart, humor, and excitement that made the first film a beloved classic.
I thought there would be another director on board who has background as a Disney film employee, but still, I am hyped, and with Bush as director and Merino as producer, I believe we are in good paws.
