As for the novels themselves, don’t forget that you’re writing these for fun, not because you have to. I want to see you all do the best you can, but the event loses its charm if you’re struggling and forcing yourself to work like this.
Anyways, I’ve got a few short tips for all of you out there to keep writing. Check them out after the break!
I’ve got 5 quick tips for all of you out there working. I hope that you all can take these to heart and keep on writing as best you can!
1. Don’t give up:
I know that if you’ve fallen behind a few days, or you’re having a hard time, it may feel easiest to just give up. Don’t do it, Even if you’ve fallen behind, or you’re having a hard time, you can make it work! Don’t let the guilt or sadness beat you, you can do it!
2. Beat your goal:
You may have a daily word goal, and that’s great! But plan to beat it whenever you can. If you can beat it and get ahead of the curve, then you’ll be in a really good spot for the future. If you work ahead now, when you fall behind later it’ll even out.
3. Reward yourself:
You know, we usually react positively when we’re rewarded for our hard work. So when you reach your big goals, give yourself a reward. Small, large, medium, just give yourself something, I’m sure you’ll be more happy and more inclined to keep writing.
4. Edit later:
I know that writing can be hard, sometimes I hate the words I’m typing and I just delete them and get nothing on the page. Well now is the time to just write and worry about editing later. You have a big goal to reach, and I know you can make it, just remember that we’re focusing on quantity over quality here. If you love your story, you can always edit it in December!
Perhaps the most important of all of these tips. It’s real easy to fall into a slump and get yourself down, but just remember what you’re doing! Remember how cool it is. Remember how awesome of a challenge you’re working on. Remember how great it will be, and how great it will feel when you finish it and turn in a brand new story you wrote this month!
Alright, those are all the tips I had for you today. Remember to stay positive and keep writing!
This is Dominic Faux, signing off.
Thank you for these tips! I'm really struggling to balance my schoolwork with typing my story. I want to keep typing but I fear that I won't make it to 50,000 words by November 31st. Luckily, I have Thanksgiving break so I'll try to go over my goal and make it to the big 50K. Wish me luck!
Don't worry, and just like I said up there, stay positive! I know you'll be able to make it if you just keep trying!
Yeah, I am having the same issue. I am at 14k/50k words right now, but I had a late start due to working overnights temporarily for the first week so that threw my schedule off tremendously. Even if I don't make the word count by the end of the month, I will still see my story through.
It definitely is really tough to make it, and I can understand overnights making it even harder. But I can feel your determination! Stay positive and keep working! You can make it, I believe in ya!
