Official Zootopia Comics Coming Soon!!!

Source: Bleeding Cool

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to report that Zootopia is getting it’s own series of graphic novels, official from Disney!

This past weekend, at the Disney Comics panel at San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that among the comics planned for release in the near-future is one based on Zootopia.  Now, this information isn’t entirely new – we at ZNN have known for some time that a comic was coming, but didn’t have enough details to report on it previously.

Unfortunately, we were unable to attend Comic-con ourselves, and therefore were unable to see the previews from the comic that they presented there.  (We’ll make it a goal to get there next year, as well as any future conventions that will have Zootopia-related material.)

According to the official Disney fan-site, Oh My Disney, Robert Santillo (one of the people in charge of the comic) had some things to say about the style and layout of it.

“Because it’s a city, and a unique universe, you can go up and down, and move in any direction.  We are exploring a brand new world.  It’s a real universe.  Layouts could be very fascinating and the color treatment could be really interesting and a new interpretation of the original style.”

The article in Oh My Disney goes on to describe the pages shown at the convention as “beautiful”.  We’ll have to take their word on it, but if the cover image they’re using to promote it (as seen above) is any indication, I am seriously looking forward to seeing it.

The first official Zootopia Graphic Novel, published by Joe Books Inc, will be available September 27th, 2016.  At the moment it is unclear if this is going to be a single book or a multi-part series (we were unable to find any direct quotes conforming or denying this from Disney Comics themselves).  However, we do know that it’s going to be a whopping 240 pages long!

If you can’t wait to throw your money at this, it is currently available for pre-order on Amazon and at Barnes and Noble.

Onward to September 27th!

  1. Well, it's official Disney, so I suppose it's canon unless Byron, Rich or someone else official says it isn't.
